Muazu’s aide to contest
Reps by-election
By Godwin Egbara
Special Correspondent, Bauchi
Following the Supreme Court’s
verdict empowering the Independent National Electoral Commission to
conduct a bye-election into the House of Representatives’ Bauchi Federal
Constituency, the Special Adviser to Governor Yakubu Muazu on Political
and Assembly Matters, Alhaji Isa Matori, has expressed his desire to
confront his elder brother, Alhaji Abdullahi Matori of ANPP for the same
post.
Speaking with reporters to unfold his
plan, Isa noted that should ANPP present his elder brother for the post,
he was ready to confront him at the poll. He explained that the contest
would not in any way affect their relationship. According to him, what
will determine their success at the poll is not their family tie but the
electorate at their constituency. He pointed out that if any of them
wins, it is to the glory of the family.
Matori criticised the former
representative for not adequately representing his area. The aspirant
explained that there were projects earlier earmarked by the Federal
Government but due to inadequate representation, the projects have not
come to fruition.
If elected, Matori said he would work in
collaboration with other lawmakers to ensure that the projects come to
realisation. Specifically, Matori cited the cottage hospital at Toro and
Bauchi which are yet to see the light of the day. He attributed this to
lack of experience on the
part of the former representative in providing the dividends of
democracy to the people.
Speaking further, Isa described the change
of leadership at the House of Assembly as part of the dynamic of
politics. He noted that it was the first time in the history of the state
that a Speaker was impeached, adding that there was nothing unusual about
the change.
He described as untrue the insinuation
that the House of Assembly was a mere rubber stamp institution, an
extension of the executive arm of government. Matori explained that the
positive changes experienced in the state were as a result of cordial
relationship between the legislators and executive.
As far as he is concerned, the House is
composed of active and vibrant members who are alive to their
responsibilities.
