Anambra ANPP executive committee dissolved
The national leadership of the
All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) has dissolved the executive committee
of the Anambra State branch of the party for being "moribund since
the death of Dr Chuba Okadigbo", former Senate President and ANPP
vice presidential candidate in the 2003 general elections who died late
last year.
The ANPP national leadership has
consequently appointed a 13-member caretaker committee to run the affairs
of the party in the state until a new congress is held.
The dissolution of the executive committee
and the setting up of a caretaker committee are contained in two separate
letters dated April 30, 2004, and signed by both the ANPP National
Chairman, Chief Don Obot Etiebet, and the National Secretary, Sani D.
El-Katzu.
The new 13-man caretaker committee is
headed by Ichie Mike N. Ejezie, a foremost accountant, economist, stock
broker and entrepreneur based in Lagos.
The caretaker committee is "to see to
the day-to-day activities of the party in the state, including the
repositioning and re-inaugurating the party with a view to preparing it
for the state congress".
Other members of the committee include the
former Chairman of the National Population Commission, Lt. Col. Chris
Ugokwe (rtd); Chief James Okonkwo, Mr. Okey Nwoke, Mrs. Ify Okafor, Chief
Joe Olisa and Chief Damian Enekwechi.
Others are Mr. Ifeanyi Nwagbala, Mr. Emeka
Obiekie, Chief Ekwe Dim Ike, Chief C. Chira, Chief Onwuasa and Mr.
Kennedy Nmonya who will serve as the secretary of the executive committee.
Ejezie’s appointment has already begun to
elicit reactions. "The ANPP in Anambra State could not have asked
for a more credible and successful professional", said Obioma
Nwabugwu of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
"As a turnaround expert", noted
Sir Ibezim Onyekonwu, an Onitsha-based lawyer, "Chief Ejezie is
expected to turn around immediately both the internal structures and the
dynamics of the party and ANPP’s external image in the state.”
"Ichie Mike Ejezie has always been a
worthy son and ambassador of Ihiala Local Government Area", said
Chief Aaron Ozodiniru, a Port Harcourt-based businessman and national
president of the Umuezeawala Development Union, adding: "He will
continue to uphold our values of integrity, foresight, altruism and
commitment to the common good. So many people, communities and churches
have benefited from his generosity, and we are just proud to identify
with him."
