Sweden, Holland: Match Starts

ANDERS Svensson can win his 50th cap for Sweden if he plays in the quarter-final. Henrik Larsson became the all-time Swedish top scorer in European Championship final matches when he converted a penalty against Denmark. With four goals - three in 2004, one at Euro 2000 - he has surpassed record holder Tomas Brolin's efforts.

Larsson can earn his 78th cap in this match to pass Ronnie Hellsroem and move into seventh place in the Swedish all-time list, which is topped by Thomas Ravelli with 143.

Larsson needs one goal to break into the top five on the Swedish all-time scorers' list. With 28 goals, he trails Martin Dahlin by one. Sven Rydell is top with 49 goals.

Olof Mellberg, Fredrik Ljungberg and Larsson will feature in their seventh match at a European Championship finals if they play and would then equal record-holder Joachim Bjorklund.

Midfielder Mkael Nilsson turned 26 two days before this match.Sweden are only the third team to win their group having collected just five points following Belgium in 1980 and Spain in 1984.

Sweden are unbeaten in their last seven matches since surprisingly losing a friendly in Albania in February.

Sweden have scored in their last eight matches since losing 0-3 at home to Norway in January.

Five different players have already scored for Sweden. No other team has as many different scorers.

Sweden have used only 16 players from their 23-man squad. This is the joint-least at Euro 2004 with Croatia and Latvia.

NETHELANDS

Dick Advocaat will set a post-war record for most matches in charge of the Netherlands. This will be his 54th match as Dutch coach surpasses the record held by Rinus Michels.

The only Dutch players not yet used at Euro 2004 are the two reserve goalkeeprs, Ronald Wattereus and Sander Westerveld, and the nation's all-time leading scorer Patrick Kluivert.

It is the fith time in a row the Netherlands have survived the group stage at a European Championship finals.

With 1,036 caps in total, the Dutch squad is the most experienced of those remaining at Euro 2004.

The three leading Dutch players in terms of international appearances are all at Euro 2004. Frank de Boer (111 caps), Edwin van der Sar (87) and Marc Overmars (85).

Patrick Kluivert is third in the all-time European Championship finals top scorers' list with six goals. Michel Platini (9) and Alan Shearer (7) are ahead of him.

Van der Sar and Philip Cocu have each played 11 European Championship finals matches. If the pair play two more matches at Euro 2004 they will equal Dennis Bergkamp's Dutch record of 13.

Ruud van Nistelrooy scored in all three group phase matches. Czech striker Milan Baros is the only other player at Euro 2004 who scored in all his team's group games.

The record for scoring in most consecutive European Championship fianls matches is held by Michel Platini in 1984.

MISCELLANY

Former Nethelands captain Ronald Koeman made his international debut in the last meeting between the two nations.

The last Dutch victory over Sweden was in 1974 when, led by Johan Cruyff, they won 5-1 in Stockholm.

That year also saw the last competitive match between the teams when they drew 0-0 at the World Cup in a group match.

Dutch assistant manager Willie van Hanegem featured in both the matches.

The Netherlands and Sweden have met in six competitive matches - once at the World Cup and five times at the Olympics. The Dutch won three of he Olympic matches, including the bronze medal game in 1908, while Sweden's win was the bronze medal match of 1924.

Three of the meetings between Sweden and the Netherlands at the Olympics needed extra time to produce a winner.

This match could see Johnny Heitings, Wesleyl Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart facing their Ajax Amsterdam team mate Zlatan Ibrahimoview.

Both first choice goalkeepers, Dutchman Edwin van der Sar and Sweden's Andreas Isaksson, were under contract at Juventus between 1999 and 2001. Van der Sar was the Italian club's first choice but Isaksson never played during his time in Turin.
