Afenifere Faults Verdict
By Idowu Ajanaku

AFENIFERE, the pan-Yoruba socio-political group has faulted the judgement of the Ibadan High Court, which gave a clean bill of heath to Chief Iyiola Omisore over the death of Chief Bola Ige.

Omisore the former deputy governor of Osun State who had been standing trial out the murder of the slain Justice Minister was freed yesterday justice, Akinola Sanda.

Besides Justice Sanda said the police should have investigated the pan-Yoruba association over the matter.

But speaking on behalf of Senator Abraham Adesanya the leader of the group, Mr. Yinka Odumakin said the verdict was unexpected.

His words: The ruling is not unexpected because President Olusegun Obasanjo has not only defended Omisore before the trial he has pronounced him not guilty. You must know that three judges had withdrew from the case because of undue political pressure from the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP).

In his thinking, therefore, it is only those who do not understand now the judicial system is being used for political ends by the Obasanjo's government that would be surprised by the judgement.

"It is a political pronouncement. We want the judge to know that there is no net of killers in Afenifere, the one we know, and that exist in the PDP as confirmed by one of their governor, Orji Kalu of Abia State," Odumakin said.

To drive home his point that Afenifere did not know anything about the death of Ige, Odumakin said Afenifere members only disagreed, but do not involved in killings.

"You can see that for the past two year.

Chief Ganiyu Dawodu had disagreed

  • in Lagos, but nobody has been killed since then. So we don't kill ourselves. The PDP kill Ige," he added.

Odumakin, however, took the killers of life to be door-step of God.

"If the killers escape the Nigeria judicial system, they cannot escape the judgement of God, where there is no pressure that can change the judgment," he said.
