Movie Producers Plans To Reposition Industry, Holds Seminar

WORRIED by the problem of piracy in the fledging home video industry, stakeholders have decided to take the bulls by the horns by finding ways to clip the wings of this evil bird that is threatening their livelihood.

One of the cards on the table is the suggestion to go to the capital market to raise enormous funds that will help reposition their 'nollywood'.

To curry the favour of capital marketers, on Tuesday, June 29, this year, a seminar has been scheduled to hold at the Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos. Entitled The Global Imperatives for the Nigerian Movie Industry, the event is expected to draw participants from the banking sector, especially the Central Bank, Ministry of Finance and NAL Bank.

According to the chief Executive Officer of The Big Pictures, organisers of the programme, the seminar is been long overdue in view of the contributions of films to the economy.

Igwe claims that in about 10 years since the home video industry debut, it has made a total N40 billion for the country through creation of over 6,000 movies, adding that over 300,000 jobs were also created for Nigerians during the period.

Igwe also said that his group gave digital video respect in Africa, an innovation that was unknown to the continent before now.

However, he is optimistic that their plan is capable of helping to reposition the industry such that it could generate N22 billion monthly.
