Celebration as Madam Odunukwe
turns 70
Friends
and well wishers of the Odunukwes will gather in Lagos today as the family
celebrates the 70th birthday anniversary of Madam Monica Udenwa Odunukwe.
The event which will be marked by a
thanksgiving service holds at 1.30 p.m. at the Catholic Church of Assumption,
Falomo, Lagos.
Daily Champion
reliably gathered that arrangements have been concluded to make the event which,
quite expectedly would draw dignitaries from the various strata of society, a
befitting and colourful one.
Fondly called "Mama", Madam Odunukwe is
generally regarded as a pivot of inspiration and a paragon of Christian values,
not just in Nkwelle village Oraukwu in Idemili local government area of Anambra
State where she hails from, but also beyond.
This thus explains why glamour and fanfare
will take the fore-front today to celebrate the exemplary life of "Mama".
A committed Catholic by faith, Madam
Odunukwe found love in the heart of Mr. Godwin Odunukwe in her hometown around
1953, leading to a blissful wedlock which produced eight enterprising, highly
resourceful and prosperous children.
A devout Christian, Madam Odunukwe has
never failed to attend the morning mass at 5.00 a.m. despite the three kilometre-trek
to the nearest Catholic church.
She is a member of St. Anthony de Padua
and attends its prayer meeting 4.00 p.m. every Tuesday.
According to one of her sons Mr. Charles
Odunukwe, "Mama is a very honest, hardworking and God-fearing woman that
accorded her husband the utmost respect as commanded in the Holy book."
Madam Odunukwe belongs to several
societies in the church and also participates in several activities in the
service of the Lord for over 25 years.
She contributes immensely to both church
and village developments and she was honoured by the Catholic Women Organisation
(CWO) for her relentless efforts, in 2002.
