Omisore at Senate, causes mild stirPAUL MUMEH, RICHARD IHEDIWAFIVE days after his acquittal by an Ibadan High Court of the murder of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Justice Minister, Chief Bola Ige (SAN), Senator Iyiola Omisore, on Tuesday appeared at the Senate, causing a stir as people rushed to catch a glimpse of him. Though the National Assembly is still on recess, a visibly elated Omisore was at the complex as early as 9 a.m., and was seen exchanging pleasantries and banters with other senators who congratulated him for his acquittal by the court. Omisore, who is the vice-chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Character and Governmental Affairs, was also in his office where he was received by his aides before he called on some principal officers of the senate. While declining comments on his acquittal, Omisore, how-ever, thanked Nigerians for being behind him during his travails. I have no comments for now. There will be time to talk about these things but I thank Nigerians for being behind me all this while, Omisore said. Omisore is upon his discharge expected to collect all arrears of salaries and other senatorial allowances which had accrued for him since his detention 11 months ago. While the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Senator Tawa Wada, said the Senate upon resumption will welcome Omisore with open hands, Senate leader, Dalhatu Tafida, said recently that his arrears were kept aside pending the determination of the case. The senate did not declare Omisores seat vacant despite his long absence as the leadership insisted that he did not deliberately absented himself from sitting but was kept away by a cogent circumstance. Omisore, who was arrested the second time two weeks after he was sworn in as senator last July was last Friday discharged and acquitted by the Ibadan High Court which ruled that the prosecuting evidence were not enough to convict him over the murder of the late Attorney-General.
