Four found dead in warehouse

ugochukwu eke, umuahia

FOUR young men have been found dead in a business centre at Abia State where they browsed the Internet overnight.

According to an eye-witness Okey Igwe, one of the deceased, Okorie, who worked in the business centre, had decided to browse all through the night with three of his friends with the small generating set as source of power supply. The generator was said to have been placed inside the warehouse used for the business centres operations.

Igwe claimed that the deceased might have died from exhaust fumes that came out from the generator since they locked themselves inside the warehouse which had no ventilation.

He said when the door was forced open, the warehouse was filled with smoke, while two of the boys were found near the door. Given the position the boys were found, he said, they were probably trying to open the door but died before achieving their desire.

Part of the warehouse was also used to store second hand refrigerators and other second hand items brought into the country for sale and these could have hindered them from moving easily to open the door.

Speaking with the DAILY TIMES in Aba, Mr. Isaac Egele, said he woke up on Sunday morning and asked after Okorie to wash his clothes which he normally did on such days but could not find him.

Egele said he was later told that Okorie went to the business centre for all night browsing. I asked them to go and call him, but they came back top tell me that the place was locked from inside with the generator on, he said.

He said after several knocks at the door without any answer, they forced it open and found four bodies on the floor.

The police have transferred the bodies to Abia State University Teaching Hospital mortuary, and started investigation into the matter.
