Nasarawa Govt to dissolve new councils

MOSES GBANDE, Lafia

INDICATIONS have emerged that the Nasarawa State Government may dissolve the newly created local governments in the state as a way of getting round the withholding of its council allocations.

The government is considering this option in order to find a solution to the hardship being faced by the local governments.

The government had last week constituted a 13-man committee to decide the fate of the 16 new local governments in the state.

Membership of the committee which has 10 days to submit its report is drawn from the state House of Assembly, Elders Forum, Nigeria Labour Congress, Ministry of Justice, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

Since the Federal Government suspended the local govern-ment allocation to states that conducted election into newly created councils, life had not been the same with the families and staff of local government employees in Nasarawa State.
