NAHCO Denies Cargo Theft at Lagos Airport Management of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) debunked rumours making the rounds on the theft of some cargo from the company's warehouses at the Murtala Muhammed Airport. NAHCO in a statement issued yesterday on its behalf by Obuke Oyibotha "unequivocally" affirmed that there was niether an iota of truth in the alleged theft of cargo from its warehouses nor cop officials of NAHCO in "Police net" for their involvement. "The cargo being referred to as missing or stolen were duly cleared and released by men of the Customs in the normal course of business. "All the appropriate agencies were involved in the clearance of the said cargo. It is routine for officials of the Customs to take stock of what has been cleared from the warehouses and what is left, and in the course of doing so, they are bound to ask questions, which should not be construed as enquiry for stolen goods", the statement read. NAHCO urged members of the public and the medias, who are being bombarded with rumours of cargo theft to take the pain to verify from the Customs Department (Federal Operations) "as it has in its custody all the papers relating to the clearance of the cargo in question". The statement noted that NAHCO has no authority to release any cargo in the bonded warehouses without getting the nod of the Customs. "It is the stockin trade of mischiefmakers to ignite the rumour mill in order to malign NAHCO management for refusing to kow-tow to their demands", the statement concluded.
