Ogbuewu Vows to Fight Piracy Minister for Culture and Tourism, Ambassador Frank Nchita Ogbuewu, yesterday said he would use every instrument within his powers to ensure that activities of those who conspire to steal intellectual properties are brought to an end. Speaking at the special launching of Amity, a new Pan-African magazine, in Abuja, Ogbuewu described the action of pirates as economically destructive and frustrating the honest efforts of artists and writer. "The Ministry will use the instrumentality of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), to stem the havoc being caused by these economic saboteurs", he said. He lamented the huge economic loss suffered by the nation as a result of poor development of the film industry. Speaking on some of the objectives of the Publisher Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL), the minister said it is heart-warming to see a group of young Nigerians who has interest in the restoration of an African identity. He said the magazine, from its content and editorial direction, has the potential of re-awakening the Pan African consciousness and promoting unity among African people, especially those in diaspora. "The idea is very worthwhile. Amity is not just a magazine, it is a way of sending messages to all blacks across the world, messages of peace and cultural renaissance to our black brothers who have embraced alien culture and mode of dressing", Ogbuewu said.
