Lawmakers Want State, LG Involved in Erosion Control House of Representatives Committee on Inter-government al Affairs has called on the Federal Government to involve states and local government areas in contracts for the control of ecological problems in their localities. Chairman of the Committee, Chief Dayo Ogunniyi, expressed the view while addressing newsmen in Enugu, after the lawmakers rounded off their two-day inspection tour of flood and erosion sites in parts of the state. He said there was need for states and local governments to be involved in the contract, as it would enable them to monitor the progress of work and reduce the incidence of abandoned contracts. Ogunniyi said his committee was satisfied with the efforts of the federal and Enugu State governments in tackling ecological problems in the state. He said based on the inspection, there was enough indication that both the Federal and Enugu State government have started addressing the devastating effects of ecological problems. Ogunniyi lauded the state government for its efforts in erosion control at Agbaja Ngwo, where about 100 metres gully site was reclaimed, the Nsude twin tank erosion site as well as the borehole site at 9th Mile, Akpugo-eze in Oji River and parts of Udi and Nsukka.
