Child's Rights 'll Be Better Protected - Lawmaker From Charles Onyekamuo in Awka A member of Anambra State House of Assembly, (Mrs) Anthonia Tabansi-Okoye, has said the state would make a giant leap towards establishing a child justice administration, rights and responsibility that would protect the child's rights the more, when the state Governor, Dr. Chris Ngige, assents to the child's right bill passed recently by the state House of Assembly. Tabansi-Okoye, a lawyer and Chairman on Information and Women Affairs Committee co-sponsored the bill along with Mr. Bona Orakwe (Onitsha South) and Chuba Oranusi representing Idemili South Constituency, which has been passed by the Assembly and now awaiting the governor's assent. But she told THISDAY in Awka that the passage of the bill would help children in the state develop the hope that their rights and future would always be protected and guaranteed, adding that the bill would provide for proper and compulsory education, welfare and health of the children all over the state. She described the bill as a long-awaited move to eradicate destitution, child labour, child slavery, illiteracy and child prostitution in the state. Also, Oranusi said it was aimed at ensuring a stable and guaranteed political, social and economic future for Anambra children. He praised the efforts of his colleagues in their response to the bill, which resulted in its prompt passage, even as he called on governments at all levels, parents, community leaders and child care agencies to support the full realisation and implementation of the aims of the bill.
