Group Supports PDP's Position on Power Shift
With reference to President Olusegun Obasanjo's statement that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has settled for power shift, Equity 2007, has declared that the party's position is also binding on PDP in Delta State.
Equity 2007, a group comprises Delta North and South senatorial districts, has in recent time been campaigning for power shift from the Central Senatorial district to either the South or North Senatorial districts of the State.
The group also argued that the Central has had enough, because it has produced the governor of the state for two consecutive time as agreed on by the party in the state at its formative stage.
Speaking to newsmen in Asaba, the chairman, publicity committee of the group, who is also the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Peter Nwaoboshi, said "come 2007, power shift in Delta State is irrevocable, President Obasanjo has clarified the position of the party on this issue, as far as Equity 2007 is concerned, it is also binding on Delta State."
Nwaoboshi stressed that the call for powershift is for the benefit of all Deltans, adding that all senatorial districts are stateholders and as such either the South or North Senatorial districts should produce the next governor come 2007.
The commissioner noted that "the development of our state is the task of all Deltans, North and South also have resource persons who can also effectively run the affairs of the state for the benefit of all."
He commended Ibori for what he has done in the state for the past four and half years, saying he was confident the governor would leave a great legacy behind when he leaves office in 2007.
The publicity committee's chairman of Equity 2007 called on all Deltans from all the three senatorial districts to join hands with the group on its efforts at entrenching the policy of power shift, equity, fair play and justice in the state come 2007.
