Resignation Threat: Galadima is a Joker - Yabilsu
By Femi Solaja
Colonel Dogo Yalbisu has described the recent threat by the chairman of Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima to resign from the NFA as the biggest joke of the year.
Colonel Yalbisu, who is also a member of the present board, told THISDAYSports yesterday at the National Stadium Lagos that "it is unfortunate that the chairman and the secretary general, chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, are not working according to the policies formulated by the present board of NFA and the understanding that will ensure that proper harmonisation of problems at hand has not been fully exploited and this necessitated the Threat to quit if things are not done in proper way.
"I think Alhaji Galadima has achieve" something by making it public that the secretary general should submit himself to the policies of the board because that is the only way we can make meaningful progress before the expiration of the present board.
"I don't think the chairman will go to the extent of throwing in the towel because it will further draw the house back and this is not the best time to start another problem at a time all hands should be on deck to ensure that the Super Eagles make it to another World Cup finals in Germany in 2006," he said.
Recently the NFA Boss was quoted to have expressed reservations over the purported parley that Ogunjobi had with some erring Super Eagles' players after the Nations' Cup in Tunisia, which was against the decision of the board who had earlier sanctioned the players.
However, THISDAYSports gathered that the secretary general was acting on the directive of the Sports Minister Colonel Musa Mohammed to go and parley with players like Yakubu Aiyegbeni who vowed never to play for the national team again until those who master minded his expulsion from the Nations Cup team are removed from NFA.
"There is the need for better understanding between the board, the secretariat and the sports ministry because it is only when we work together that we can achieve a desired goal for the nation.
"When things go bad nobody remembers all these other bodies rather the board is what all stake holders will be clamouring for to be dissolved and if that is how it should be, then it must be given some autonomy to formulate policies which the secretariat must carry out", he pointed out.
