Ibori loses mother
Madam Comfort Oji
Ibori, mother of Delta State Governor James Ibori, passed on in the wee hours
of Tuesday. She had been ill
briefly, but left for the great beyond peacefully; aged 88 years.
The governor has
suspended all public engagements for the next seven days in her honour.
Madam Ibori was a
devout Christian, community leader and philanthropist whom relatives and
associates alike describe as ever cheerful.
A statement by the
governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media Relations, Abel Oshevire,
said she would also be remembered for her “rib cracking jokes, her
shrewdness and the ability to adapt easily”.
Apart from James, she
is survived by another child, Mrs Christine Ibie; as well as grand children, a
brother, several nieces and nephews, including Secretary to the Delta State
Government Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Government House,
Asaba was in a mourning mood on Tuesday as a few offices that opened carried
out only skeletal services.
The state Assembly was not left out. It adjourned after
sitting for just a few minutes.
