Anti-drug war tough in Rivers, says NDLEA
By Akanimo Sampson
Bureau Chief, Port Harcourt
Anti-narcotic war in Rivers State is proving to be a
tough one, the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has said.
The anti-narcotic agency, however, said it has
reduced the ranking of the state as the nation’s second highest drug
haven.
According to the NDLEA, the drug war is as tough in
the Abonnema Wharf and Diobu areas of Port Harcourt, as it was in Columbia, a
Latin American country.
Sources within the NDLEA told Daily Independent that
the narcotic drug rings in those areas of the state capital were linked to some
of the dreaded cult/militia groups.
The Commander of the NDLEA in the state, Mr. Nicolas
Walter Salu, while confirming the development, said the battle has been very
problematic. “The fight is
not only against drug offenders, but against cult members who see drug abuse as
a way of life,” he said.
