Damaturu agog for Abba Ibrahim volleyball

The second edition
of Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim National (Male and Female) open volleyball
championships has kicked off in Damaturu theYobe State capital.
The championship
which is holding at the August 27th Stadium in Damaturu is featuring nine male
and female teams. States contending for the prestigious trophies include Niger,
Kano, Plateau, Delta, Oyo, Kaduna, Imo, Borno and the host state, Yobe.
Other teams
participating in the competition are drawn from the Federal Capital Territory,
Abuja, the Nigerian Airforce, Immigration, the Nigerian Navy.
Four matches were
played on the opening day of the championship, two male and two female. Yobe
state male team humbled Kaduna
3-1, Oyo beat Kano 3-0. In the female matches, immigration 3, Oyo
- 0, and Plateau 3, Navy 0.
This year’s
championship had commenced without a formal opening ceremony, Daily Independent
gathered that the state governor Alhaji Bukar Abba Ibrahim would be present at the opening
ceremony which is likely to take place today.
