Last Updated: Monday, November 1st, 2004 HOME | Previous Page IBB campaign groups defect to Marwa’s camp By Sola Shittu, Reporter, Ibadan   A crack in the Vision 007 campaign group of former president Ibrahim Babangida emerged over the weekend in Ibadan as the various IBB 2007 groups declared for Buba Marwa’s Hope 2007. The group led by Chief Remi Tella said Babangida had been a very difficult product for him to market especially in the South West because of the June 12 crisis. Addressing a press conference at Premier Hotel in Ibadan, Tella narrated his ordeal in the hands of opposition in Ibadan who allegedly beat him to a state of coma and damaged his Nissan Blue Bird car with registration number “IBB Project 007”. Tella who was flanked by leaders of the defecting groups from Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Lagos, Kwara and Kogi states, said they decided to move into Marwa camp when they realised the need to present a credible and marketable candidate for Nigerians come 2007. Although, Tella admitted that he liked IBB but the decision to quit his campaign machinery ranged from personal to general reasons. “I must confess that I just love the man IBB. I can explain it and that is why I’ve been working for him without collecting a kobo, ask him. But you see this June 12 something is an albatross. It is the main issue that is pushing me out of the IBB presidential campaign team. I have to be honest with you, if it is because of money, I won’t be in the IBB camp up till today” said Tella. Chief Tella who was then the coordinator of “Project 007” in Oyo state added that with the situation on ground in the South West, it was glaring that majority of people in the area are not favourably disposed to Babangida’s candidature in 2007. He said giving the above reason, himself and other notable persons in the various IBB 2007 groups resolved to opt for Marwa as the only Hope for the masses in 2007.   Copyright� 2004.
