MASSOB to seek foreign support in 2005

Leader of the Movement for Actualisation of the Sovereign
State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has said he would soon unfold
his agenda for 2005, which would involve the international community.
He said he had been consulting with the authorities in
foreign nations and that having concluded that leg of his struggle for the
realisation of a permanent home for the Igbo, he would now move to exploit the
available potentials.
He told journalists in Owerri that he would never be
deterred by the “provocative raids and other humiliating
strategies” employed by security operatives to checkmate him.
“I was fully aware that the struggle was not going to
be easy. I knew that my people would not be allowed to go without a struggle.
So I prepared myself for the struggle and my people are also well
prepared,” he said.
He said like the Israelites did not leave Egypt without
signs and wonders, so also would Biafra not be realised without signs and
wonders, arguing that he has never given serious thought to the harassments
from security operatives.
Uwazuruike, whose Umunamu, Okwe village home was raided by
men of the State Security Services (SSS), said all plans aimed at actualising
his dream have been carefully laid out and that by the end of this year he
would unfold his agenda for 2005.
“What I am doing is well planned and documented. Most
of my men are aware of the blueprint. That is why I have always said my death
would not hold back the hand of the clock.”
He added that his struggle is a legitimate one considering
that Nigeria has taken the people of the South East for granted, adding that
all the harassments that security operatives have meted out to him were
indicative of that grand design to humiliate the Igbo.
“Sometime ago the Nigerian government negotiated with
some people who took up arms to pursue their agenda of saving their people and
land from extinction. But when it comes to MASSOB and Uwazuruike, they use
mobile policemen and SSS people. Can’t you see the double standard they
are playing?” Uwazuruike noted.
