Correspondent, Owerri
Senate President Adolphous Wabara has said the problem of
bad roads in the South East and Imo State in particular would be addressed in
the 2005 budget.
Speaking in Umuelenmai at the combined Iriji festival of
Isiala Mbano and Ehime Mbano, he said with support from Senator Ifeanyi
Araraume, he was sure the issue would be fully addressed.
Wabara, who received a chieftaincy title along with
Araraume, Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, Chairman of the Niger Delta
Development Commission, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, said there were no cracks in
his relationship with Araraume.
He said, “We have known ourselves for a long time. We
were in the first senate and I remember us telling each other that there is
something we are chasing and either of us who gets it will support the
other.”
Wabara said whatever differences that might exist in the
imagination of people have been settled with his visit to Umuelenmai, adding
that he came because Araraume had always attended functions involving him.
The senate president called on the people to continue to
lend their support to the party so as to move the country forward.
He said Araraume is a dogged fighter who never gives up on
anything he pursues and that his active participation in the senate had enabled
the zone and state to receive incentives from government.
Also speaking Udenwa assured the people of the two councils
and the entire Okigwe senatorial zone of government preparedness to address
most of their problems.
He said the government has awarded contracts for the
construction of roads in the area and that in the near future he would also
ensure that other roads were constructed to open up the rural areas.
Araraume said in an address that democracy is the best thing
that has happened to Nigeria and that with it Nigerians would continue to reap
good dividends.
He said he would cooperate with his colleagues to ensure
that Imo gets its dues.
Member of the Board of Trustees of PDP, Chief Emmanuel
Iwuanyanwu urged Wabara and Araraume to work together for the good of Igbo.
