Foppe at Dowen College, counsels physically challenged pupils

By Fabian Ozor

Senior Correspondent, Lagos

American born motivational speaker and leadership skills expert, Mr. John Foppe visited the Dowen College Lekki, Lagos where he met with the physically challenged pupils of Atunda-Olu School, Surulere, Lagos during one of the sessions.

In his first major outing since arriving Nigeria on Sunday night, Foppe shared his life experiences with the students of Dowen college and also encouraged the physically challenged pupils who came from Surulere to felicitate with. Foppe is believed to be a king amongst the physically challenged personsin the whole world.

Explaining that everybody has ability to make the best of his life, Foppe said that at the age of 10, without arms and with other seven birth defects, he was challenged to do things by himself in spite of his physical defects, a situation that made him to do almost everything, from cutting his hair, taking his bath, cooking, driving, using his legs.

He explained that for physically challenged, the difference between them and those without defects is share commitment and the hope that they can do it in spite of their physical limitations.

"With my situation, I have earned a Masters Degree in Communications and Public Speaking, drive my car, travel round the world motivating those without defects and do lots more, then what is your excuse", Foppe told the physically challenged pupils.

Explaining that sometimes people can’t do certain things “because what we see outside physically does not give us a true picture of what is inside hence at the slightest challenge people are bound to back off believing their problems are too much for them”.

He later launched the ‘Youths Without Excuse Club’ at the college, saying that the club is part of his legacy in Nigeria.

Also speaking during the launch of the club Dr. Gbolahan Alli- Balogun, Head Training and Development, First Bank Nigeria Plc said that the club is born primarily to propagate the vision of Foppe especially as it concerns encouraging the youths to do more in spite of their limitations.

Foppe arrived Nigeria on Sunday October 23 in company of his wife Christine at the instance of First Bank and Soft skills Management Consultants to make presentations to select Nigerian professionals und Chief Executive of companies in Lagos and Abuja.
