We will play in final - Kotoko coach

By Emeka Nwani

Snr. Correspondent, Lagos

The German coach of Ghanaian side, Kumasi Ashanti Kotoko, Hans Diefer Schmidt, has declared that his side has a good chance of playing in the finals of the Confederation Cup.

Speaking after his side fell 1-2 to Nigeria's Enugu Rangers International last Saturday, Schmidt said:

"We will go home and defeat Al-Hilal to book a final slot. Our chances are very good."

Asked to comment about the Petro Athletico/Rangers tie in Luanda, which would be played two

weeks from now, he replied:

"Rangers are good, but they cannot win in Luanda. They can only get a draw, which might not be

good for them when all the matches have been played."

The German admitted that the Nigerians were a good side, describing the match as "a match between

two great African sides."

Both matches on the final day of the group stage would hold simultaneously in Kumasi and Luanda.

Rangers walloped Petro 4-0 in Enugu, while Kotoko lost 0-2 in Khartoum in the first round.

Petro Athletico lost the game against Hilal 1-0 in Sudan and Petro may not have anything to play for when they engage the Nigerian

side in the last match of the competition.

But coach Lawrence Akpokona noted that they are going to approach the game against Petro in Luanda as if they needed a win to qualify.

"It is a good news that Petro lost. That means there is nothing for them to play for in the last game. But we are going there to win.

“We are going to Luanda to try and win because we don't want to take chances. The moment we win, then it is all over for Kotoko,”Akpokona said.
