Archbishop Makinde Tasks NLC on Strike

The Archbishop of Lagos, His Grace, The Most Reverend Dr Sunday Ola Makinde, has charged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to please, disspiate its efforts and energy, concertedly on how the Federal Government, other privileged individuals and corporate bodies would build and sustain new refineries in Nigeria, in order to arrest the continued, unabated and galloping fuel price increase.
To this end, such privileged few and the wealthy, should be educated and counselled to please invest positively and gainfully in such laudable ventures, with a view to providing job oportunities, to cushion the suffering of the masses, especially through improved infrastructure.
These suggestions were proffered by the Archbishop, while speaking with journalists at a press conference, he addressed at the Wesley Cathedral Olowogbowo Lagos on the state of the nation.
The cleric berated some members of the political class on the plight of the suffering masses who voted them to power.
He however frowned at some arms of the judiciary, especially, the JCPC and EFCC, for not arresting, prosecuting and jailing a very or some "Big Fish", that should have served as deterrents to other would be culprits.
While extolling the virtues of the media on the giant strides of some journalists in achieving an egalitarian society "where no man is oppressed," Archbishop Sunday la Makinde, charged others to please continue with such a tireless stride, in removing the oppressed from the shackles of the so called leaders, whose stock in trade was to "line their pockets" at the expense of the innocent people they were meant to serve.
The cleric therefore, charged that the media as the last hope of the common man, to please increase their temp in keeping the leaders on their toes against corruption and other vices that tend to put Nigeria in bad stead or shape.
The Archbishop of Lagos, f urther enjoined every Nigerian and other residents alike in the country, to please ensure that such shameful classification by the Transparency International was promptly arrested and erased, to a more glorious and proud heritage, even for the unborn generation to be proud of.
The press conference which was held by the Lagos Archdiocese in conjunction with the Trinity Church Council, Tinubu, Lagos, was presided over by the Archbishop of Lagos, Reverend Dr Sunday Ola Makinde, with Bishop S. Olu Alaran of the Ikorodu Diocese, Sister Olufemi Sonola, Lay President, Lagos Archdiocese, Pa Moses O. Odebode, Lay President, Trinity Church Council, Tinubu, Lagos, other presbyters and clergies from the Lagos Archdiocese, while the Very Reverend S.T.V. Adegbite coordinated the event with other members of the committee in attendance.
Meanwhile, a rally is being organised for Sunday, 31st October, 2004 against corurption and it is tagged, "Say No To Corruption."
It will commence at 3 p.m. prompt from the Hoare's Memorial Cathedral Methodist Church, Herbert Macaulay street, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, from where they will proceed to the Lagos State government secretariat car park premises, Alausa, where the Lagos State Governor, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is billed to address them.
