Traditional Rulers Get 14 Jeeps
Gombe
From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe

Gombe State Governor, Danjuma Goje has presented 14 brand new Jeeps at a cost of N148 million to Traditional Rulers in the State.

Ten prado jeep were given to ten second class Emirs and chiefs while four Senior District Heads were presented with CRV Honda Jeep.

Goje had recently given out a fully loaded new Toyota Land-Cruiser and a Peugeot Expert to the Emirs of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Usman Abubakar, who is the Chairman Council of Chiefs while his deputy, the Emir of Kaltungo, Alhaji Sale Mohammed received a new Peugeot 607 and one Peugeot Station Wagon.

While presenting the keys of the vehicles to the Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Goje stressed he donated the vehicles as part of his campaign promises to enhance the status of Traditional Rulers in the State and accord them more dignity and convenience.

According to the governor, his government preferred to purchase new vehicles for the Royal father instead of scrap and refurbished vehicles bought for them by the Abubakar Hashidu administration.

Said Goje "This is a sharp departure from the way our traditional Rulers were treated by the previous government. We are aware that out of all the vehicles allocated to the Traditional Rulers by the former administration only one is today on road."

The government related that his administration had resolved to restore and protect the dignity of institutions by trimming their number to a reasonable size.

"These actions were not taken to humiliate our Royal fathers, but to restore the glory of the institutions and their unique status."

Goje appealed to the Emirs and Chiefs to endeavour to reciprocate government gesture by shouldering the enormous responsibilities bestowed on them for sustainable development of the state and the peaceful co-existence of the people.

The governor announced that government would soon formalise the appointments of District Heads and create new village areas in attractive salary package.
