Group Condemns Osoba's Arrest Lagos The recent arrest of former Ogun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba by Zone II Police Command over the alleged attack of the convoy of Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel have been condemned by National League of Veteran Journalists (NLVJ). The group described the action of the police as reminiscent of the Anambra saga in which the zonal police command at Umuahia usurped the function of the state police command and invaded Government House, Awka, to depose an elected and serving governor. A statement signed by the Secretary General and an Executive member of NLVJ, Ben Lawrence and Ajibade Fasina-Thomas respectively, said it is difficult to understand why police imposed a bail of N50m on the alleged complicity in a case of breach of the public peace a common offence all over the world. The group added that offences that confounded the constitution and assailed the corporate being of a state involving the overthrow of an elected chief executive was treated lightly by the government. Afraid that something untoward may happen to Osoba if the designs of his adversaries are allowed to pass in this climate of miscarriage of justice, the group calls on all people of goodwill to rally to the side of peace to prevent any harm which may befall him. The group equally condemned the murder of Captain Jerry Agbeyegbe in strange circumstances, adding that his role in resisting damnable government measures that badly affected the well being of the people was very significant and raises questions over the circumstances of his assassination.
