Muslim Group Prays for Good Leadership in US
Lagos
Ahead of US general elections tomorrow, National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has urged Muslims to take advantage of the holy month of Ramadan to pray for the emergence of a God-fearing leader in the country.
NACOMYO made the call in a statement by its Lagos State Chapter Coordinator, Alhaji Murtala Balogun and his Public Relations Officer, Mallam Issa Sanni. Besides, the call to all Muslim for supplication, the council said a special prayer involving its over 200 affiliates across Lagos State in respect of the American election would hold today.
According to the statement, with American acclaimed position as the most powerful nation in the world, whose actions and inactions posed serious consequences for other nations, it was imperatrive to plead with the Almighty Allah to ensure that whoever emerged as president in that country would rule with the fear of God and love for peace and well-being of all peoples of the world.
NACOMYO recalled with sadness that America invaded Iraq over a year ago against wise counsel from notable world leaders and the United Nations, but eventually did not find any weapon of mass destruction, cited as reason for the invasion and even with the removal of President Saddam Hussein, the country had continued to witness bloodshed and destruction of lives and property.
The youth council said rather than make the world safe with its war against terrorism, the approach adopted by America had continued to inflame sentiments, anger and encourage the emergence of great incidences of terrorism.
NACOMYO blamed the unsavoury developments on American's failure to prosecute its campaign for peace with universal justice, fairness and selfishness.
The council noted that no other single group of people suffers systematic injustice and oppression throughout the world except Muslims, citing the bitter experiences of Muslims in Palestine, Chechnya, Kashmir, Afghanistan and the Middle East. According to the Muslim youth group, Islam was oposed to wanton destruction of lives and property as well as terrorism.
NACOMYO expressed the hope that with the emergence of a God-fearing leadership in America, the super power and its allies would recognise the need for true justice, fairness and selflessness as important ingredients in the war against terrorism as well as in ensuring peace in the world.
The council urged Muslims to pray for the liberation of oppressed Muslims throughout the world as well as for peace and progress in Nigeria.
