Benue Works Ministry Happy With Rural Roads Construction Benue Permanent Secretary in the Benue state ministry of Works, Mr. Emmanuel Atini, has expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the Makurdi-Gbajimba rural road. The road is the first on the list of 230 kilometres of rural roads approved by the state house of assembly for all the local governments. Atini made the observation after inspecting work on the road, and also commended the quality of work done. He said with the cessation of rains work on the raods will be accelerated. The Permanent Secretary attributed the initial delay in the commencement of the projects to inability of stakeholders to reach a quick consensus on specific roads and heavy rains which set in while the matter was being resolved. Work already done has covered nine kilometers from the University of Agriculture Makurdi, where it was started. Bush clearing which has reached the Guma River while lateriting and compacting has reached the Imande Akpu settlement. It is expected that the contractor will use a new technology similar to the one used on some roads in South Africa in surface dressing the roads. Each of the 23 local government areas will get 10 kilometers of the roads in the first phase of the project for which contract valued at over two billion naira was awarded in the first quarter of this year.
