3 die in Asaba fire
Meanwhile, three persons were roasted to death in Asaba in the early hours of yesterday in an outbreak of fire which razed a block of stores including a cold room close to the popular Ogbeogonogo market. Apart from the three casualties burnt beyond recognition, property worth thousands of naira were also destroyed.
The news of the fire incident shook the town as traders at the market raced to the scene only to find out that it was not Ogbeogonogo market per se but a shopping mall adjacent the market.
Eye witness told Vanguard that “all we saw was fire all over the place and we started to shout but unfortunately the three persons burnt were sleeping in a room behind the cold room They were the manager of the cold room and two other boys I think they are apprentices.”
Meanwhile, the police has removed the charred bodies of the victims to the hospital, while some traders who lost their wares to the midnight fire were seen wailing. It was also gathered that the men of the state fire service arrived the scene late as much had taken place before their arrival. They, however, assisted in preventing the fire from spreading further.
