EVEN in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where the incumbent NITEL holds sway, with a splash of mobile and fixed wireless services, Startech, a private operator is demonstrating that it is possible for an organization to carve a niche for itself so far that organization is focused and well-intentioned. This is the take-away message that Hi Tech could arrive at after over an hour of interaction with the Startech boss, Ms Anne Bresnahan who told us in Abuja that instead of her organization trying to spread itself thin to provide a cocktail of services in the industry, it has instead, decided to concentrate on the three primary areas of providing integrated terrestrial voice, broadband and Internet Solutions to customers nationwide. Startech also aspires to be an access network to other smaller operators.
Licensed to operate in the 3.5GHz frequency band by the NCC, the organization is the first to commence fixed wireless services in this frequency and plans to extend services to Kaduna, Kano, Plateau and Nassarawa, which are the areas, covered by the license.
