ABEOKUTA—NATIONAL Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West, Chief Olabode George weekend berated former Ogun state governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba over the Ilaro riot and asked traditional rulers and elders to call him to order.
Chief George on a solidarity visit to Governor Olugbenga Daniel in Abeokuta over the riot in which the governor’s convoy and that of his wife, Olufunke were allegedly attacked, said the elders should warn Chief Osoba that such should not repeat itself.
He warned that the PDP would not tolerate any act of violence against its elected officials in any part of the south west and that anybody caught precipitating violence no matter how highly placed would not be spared.
“It is most regrettable that the immediate past Governor of the state has been fingered as the brain behind these attacks. We are not surprised. It is very much in line with the character of a man who has never outgrown mediocrity, and youthful exuberance.
“He has been unable to reconcile himself with the sound beating he received at the 2003 polls and the pace setting achievements of Governor Daniel in Ogun state.
“His denial of involvement in the attack flies in the face of his presence and that of 2000 of his supporters and thugs in the area around the time of the attack. It is also uncivilised to issue a threat to deal with Governor Daniel in Year 2006”, he said.
Chief George said that the antics and utterances of Chief Osoba fell far below the dignity and standard expected of a former governor of a state adding, “it is clear he has not yet come to terms with his inglorious exit from the state house”.
The PDP chieftain condemned the attack on the convoys of the governor and his wife, noting that his party would not tolerate any act of political violence.
