AWKA—VICE-President, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria (SCIAN), Anambra State chapter, Alhaji Dauda Ajagu wants the Federal Government to pay genuine attention to the abandoned Onitsha - Owerri road contract. He ask Government to rehabilitate the nation’s refineries as a way of tackling the incessant petroleum products crisis in the country.
Alhaji Ajagu also called on the fasting moslems to use the month of Ramadan to make peace with God and mankind, saying the Ramadan period is a special period for Muslims to relate to God. He urged them to use the period to love one another and give alms to the less privileged.
In a message to encourage Muslims on the Ramadan fasting, Ajagu called on the federal and state governments to fulfill their promises, pointing out that the only thing the citizenry need now is for democratic dividends to get to the grassroots. The Islamic leader further called on the Federal Government to release funds to the contractor handling the Onitsha - Owerri road so that work could resume in earnest on the road project.
He lamented that with present condition of the ever busy road, the entire Eastern part of the country has virtually been cut-off from other parts of the country. On the incessant petroleum products crisis, Alhaji Ajagu called on the Federal Government to rehabilitate the nation’s refinaries, saying that it was shameful that Nigeria, a high profile oil producing nation should be going through the hard-ship the citizens are going through. “I am appealing to the Government to rehabilitate our refinaries, so that we can refine some of our crude oil for our use. Nigerians are suffering in the midst of plenty,” Ajagu said. He also urged the government to look inwards and reactivate other income earning avenues like Cocoa, Palm Produce and Groundnut.
