ABA:—Esperance of Tunisia were not fantastic in the semi final match of the African Champions League decided yesterday at the Aba Township stadium but host and defending champions, Enyimba were not good enough to beat them as they found themselves struggling to escape defeat to the astonishment of their fans.
Esperance had one attempt at goal and they scored when Nnarei Jaouhar one-timed a beautiful free kick from the left in the 59th minute which Vincent Enyeama in goal for Enyimba parried into the net, questioning his fitness and vision. He had just recovered from injuries following an auto crash he was involved in recently. Enyimba concentrated most of their moves into the middle and rarely used the flanks. The visitors appeared to have read their moves and clustered the midfield, sometimes using about eight players but surprisingly Enyimba did not read this well enough to open up the game.
The Aba boys had their chances in the first half but didn’t utilise any and Emeka Nwana was the worst offender. He had only the goalkeeper to beat at a time but he lazily did what only he knew with the ball to the chagrin of all.
