London—The Special Assistant on media matters to the World Soccer Ruling Body President (FIFA), Emmanuel Maradas has said that the Sports and Social Development Ministry is holding Nigrerian football into ransom saying that there would be no going back should the NFA fails to allaign its rules to conform with FIFA statues.
Mr Maradas disclosed here that the world soccer ruling body was determind to make Nigeria a scape-goat saying that the big foolball countries in Africa were taking things for granted as regards FIFA rules adding that there would not be room to plead for extention of the deadline.
He wondered why a country under democratic rule would not allow its Fotball Association to democratize so that there would be accountability and more credible and knowledgable people would come out to run Nigerian football and take it to greater height.
The publisher of African soccer magazine disagreed with people who opines that Nigerian football would collapse should government hands of funding of the game saying that companies would identify with the game while the FA would run it as pure business.
“If you have a business plan you can borrow money, even banks in Lagos can look at it even this country,UK can look at Nigeria proposal and will be willing to help. But people are scared because the whole situation is in the hands of people who look after themselves more than looking after football in the country.
“There are people with knowledge who can turn football around in Nigeria, lot of people the former players. 'am not talking about Segun Odegbami but people like Adokiye Amesimaka respected players with knowledge who can offer lot to this great nation but people sidelined them. Look at Tony Kojo Williams for example who came with knowledge but they pushed him out they don’t want Nigeria to move simply because Nigerian Football is in the hands of semi-educated people who dragged Nigeria down.
Give this country to knowledgeable people Nigeria will compete on equal footage with any countries in the world even the super powers. “Obviously FIFA is very serious after the ban on Cameroon was lifted during the congress in Paris that was really twisting the arms of people, Roger Milan went around and met with FIFA executive committee, pleaded with Blatter regarding the ban on Cameroon and then they lifted the ban. So, now FIFA decided to go harsh on some African countries particularly the big countries like Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon, Ghana. From January 1st it won't be a love affair, FIFA will mean business you abide you are in, you don’t you stay out.”
