...warns against age cheat

Monday, November 01, 2004

Organisers of the U J Esuene Under-15 boys soccer tournament have warned participating teams not to use players who are   above the stipulated ages for the event.

Giving this stern warning in Eket, weekend, Publicist of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Ben Ekpo said teams   which field overaged players would face the full wrath of the laws governing such a tourney.

“We do not condone age cheats, we are always for fair play, not winning by any means, but winning through fair means. And   that is why we are warning all teams not to think about fielding overaged players because any attempt to do such would meet   undesirable consequences.

“We are not going to tolerate any form of indiscipline from any team at this tournament because we want to host a tourney that   would afford Nigerians the chance of building for the future. People who have intentions to cheat do not have any place in this   tournament”, added Ekpo, who stressed that all teams have been warned on the dangers of parading overaged players at the   event.

“They know the consequences of fielding illegitimate player. Such players would be expelled and the team must then play the   event with the ones that passed the screening exercise”.

Ekpo further said that all teams participating at the tourney have promised to abide by the laid down rules but added that the   federation was woking hard to ensure full compliance with rules.
