The man, identified as Alexander Obaji, was working at the bank’s Kano branch before he was laid off in a recent retrenchment carried out by the ailing bank, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted sources as saying. Obaji, whose body was found on Monday, was said to have earlier transferred his family to Makurdi to reside with a relation. Mr. Samuel Jinadu, the Police Public Relations Officer in Benue, confirmed that the police had received a report on the matter. He said the dead man hailed form Utonkon in Ador Local Government area of Benue. Jinadu said: "the man was among the staff laid off by the Bank of the North in Kano and had been paid his disengagement benefits. "The man had earlier come to visit his family with two sets of computers, preparatory to opening a business centre. "But his wife said that he soon returned crying that he had fallen victim to fraudsters.
