ANPP trustees, Etiebet clash over NEC meeting

    NDIDI OKAFOR , Abuja

BOARD of Trustees (BOT) of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the party’s national chairman, Chief Don Etiebet, look set to clash as both plan two separate National Executive Council (NEC) meetings at different dates and locations.

The BOT’s (NEC) meeting is slated for November 28 to 29 in Abuja while that called by Etiebet is scheduled for November 26 to 27 at Borno.

Board of Trustees of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) is said to have written the seven governors of the party and the National chairman, notifying them of a proposed meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) scheduled for November 28 to 29, 2004.

The notification came even as Chief Etiebet has begun preparations for a joint meeting of NEC and the national caucus to take place in Borno State.

Chief Etiebet said that contrary to the position of the Board of Trustees (BOT) headed by Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, the constitution of the party empowered him to summon a meeting of NEC.

Etiebet insists that the "status of the BOT is advisory and it is only the national chairman that can call a meeting of NEC".

However, a letter said to have been written by the secretary of the ANPP BOT, Alhaji Gambo Magaji, and sent to Etiebet, the governors and the members of NEC, insists that the BOT will hold the NEC meeting in Abuja.

On the contrary, Etiebet has fixed the NEC meeting for Maiduguri, Borno State on November 26 to 27, 2004.

But Magaji’s letter, Daily Champion gathered said the BOT has the right to summon the meeting given the crisis in the party.

The letter, it was learnt, therefore urged the governors and all NEC members to attend the Abuja meeting.
