THE Commission of Inquiry instituted to look
into the conduct of the suspended chairman of Ungogo as well as the vice
chairman of Dawakin Kudu local government councils has swung into action.
Speaking shortly after inauguration ceremony,
the commission�s chairman, Justice Muhammad Sadi Mato said the commission
will be thorough in its assignment.
He revealed that the committee�s assignment
includes inquiry into the payments of N3,752,547 as well as purchase of
sewing machines worth N863,753 at Ungogo local government without approval
by relevant authorities.
Other payments under inquiry by the commission
include fuel allowances of N5.261 million made monthly to various officials
between April to August, 2004, and payment of liabilities of up to N2.683
million which was not reflected in the handing over note as well as the
payment without bill of quantities for N32.433 million.
Justice Mato, who said the commission would
investigate thoroughly on all the items mentioned, further stressed that
recommendation would be made for the purpose of an effective local
government administration in the state.
On the issue of the vice chairman, Dawakin Kudu
local government council, Alhaji Yala, the chairman said that the commission
would investigate into his alleged misconduct.
He then assured the commission�s readiness to
be fair and just during its sittings and called on the people to co-operate
with the commission towards achieving the desired objectives.
He then appealed to the media in the state for
wider coverage of its activities.
The commission has Justice Muhammad Sa�idu Mato,
chairman and Alhaji Abdullahi Sani Zango as secretary. Other members are
Alhaji Aliyu Tijjani and Engr. Ado Umar Yakasai.
It has adjourned till November 10, 2004.
