FRIDAY , NOVEMBER 5, 2004   RAMADAN 23, 1425 A.H.           APGA makes case on security APGA in Anambra has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) Mr. Tafa Balogun, against the use of police by some politicians to intimidate candidates from the opposing parties. The petition was contained in two separate statements signed by the state chairman and secretary of the Party, Dr. Okey Umeano and Comrade C.C. Nebe, respectively. The party lamented what it described as ``massive intimidation of candidates and voters'' as experienced in the last general elections rearing its ugly heads. They alleged threats for a repeat show of action and power by the politicians and enjoined the security agents not to allow their officers and men to be used to cause disaffection during the forthcoming council polls on Dec. 18. It appealed to the I-GP of police to deploy only members of the regular police to all the offices of the state electoral commission, polling booths and collation centres to maintain neutrality and public order. To avert crisis during the election, the party called on the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army not to allow his men to be used during the polls.
