FRIDAY , NOVEMBER 5, 2004   RAMADAN 23, 1425 A.H.           Bill to sanitize NPF underway-Dr. Nadabo From Bala Abubakar, Katsina National Assembly is working on a bill that would keep away bad eggs from the Nigeria Police Force, member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tukur Idris Nadabo has revealed. The Hon. member who disclosed this to newsmen, noted that recently some police men were caught "red handed" in some dirty deals and that must be checked. Dr. Tukur Nadabo said the bill would make it difficult for people with bad records to join the force, saying strict measures would be taken before screening new recruits into the force. The lawmaker however, called on the federal government to improve the general welfare of the men and officers of the Nigeria Police. The Hon. member who was commenting on the 2005 budget presented to the National Assembly, lamented that Agricultural sector which is the back bone of Industrial development is to be given priority. He said during the deliberations, law makers from the North would make case for improved funding of agriculture as a way to improving the well being of the people in the Northern part of the country. On granting funds to other countries by the federal government, Dr. Tukur faulted the donation, saying that Nigeria cannot afford to help other countries while its people are living in abject poverty. The lawmaker urged Obasanjo administration to reform its agenda by promoting growth in the country rather than dancing to the whims and caprice of capitaly oriented international finance organizations.
