Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has expressed disappointment with some governors in the country accusing them of not backing promises made for the education sector with actions. The Vice President berated the governors at the formal presentation and launch of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), University Matriculation Examination (UME) past questions and answers for the period 1983-2004, where only two states, Benue and Ondo were represented. He said their total absence and non-representation spoke volume about the level they placed education in their development plan and the importance they attached to its development in the country. "If we are serious about education in this country, it is not enough to just talk about it we have to act. I see education as a matter of life and death and will go to any length to ensure education gets to all", he condemned. Atiku lamented that despite the present administration's effort at ensuring that more students gained admission into schools, it was a disturbing phenomenon that more students were being turned out of schools with less universities to absorb them. He pointed out that countries like Pakistan with just five million population has 72 universities while the United States of America with a population of 240 million has 3000 universities with Nigeria having over 140 million that has a population of only 52 universities.
