Govt urged to repair refineries
FELIX NWANERI
GOVERNMENT has been charged to urgently rehabilitate the nations four refineries to end the frequent fuel crisis.
General Overseer, New Life in the Lord Ministries, Otta, Ogun State, Pastor Julius Omosebi, gave the charge, while
speaking at this years convention of the church.
Government, Pastor Omosebi said should contract efficient firms to repair the ailing refineries which have allegedly
gulped millions of naira since the inception of the President Olusegun Obasanjos administration.
"Let us look for reliable people that will handle repair works in the refineries. It is madness to sell crude
oil to foreigners and go back to them to import petrol," he said.
The clergyman who insisted that local refining of petrol would force prices down, also lamented that the citizenry
were yet to see the positive effects of high cost of fuel as promised by President Obasanjo.
On the proposed November 16 strike occasioned by increase in petroleum products, Pastor Omosebi, said it was a
welcome idea, saying if such action can force the government to revert to the old price, Nigerians should embark
on it.
"I support the Nigeria, Labour Congress (NLC) on the strike although it is not palatable. But let it come
up if it is the only way we can force the government to listen to us," he noted.
Pastor Omosebi, criticised government officials who surround themselves with sycophants even as he picked holes
in the actions of clerics who give wrong advices to those in authority.
Predicting a revolution which would move the nation forward, the cleric advised Christians to return to God and
stand firm in His word.
"Christians must return to the old landmark of Gods commandments and stand firmly on the word of God. They
shouldnt dance to the tune of time despite what is happening in Nigeria. Unless this is done Nigerians will continue
to experience bad governance, he said.
