Nigeria records $185bn trade with China By Henry Omunu Nigeria and China have recorded $185 billion in trade between the two countries, according to the chairman, standing com-mittee, National Peoples Congress of China, Mr Wu Banggou, who is on a two-day official visit to the country. Speaking at a ceremony hosted by Senate President Adolphus Wabara, in his honour at the National Asse-mbly yesterday, Mr. Banggou said his country and Nigeria have enjoyed 33 years of favourable economic and bilateral relations resulting in $185 billion volume of trade. Mr. Banggou said des-pite socio-political changes in the two countries, bilateral relations have remained healthy and may reach a new height following improved relations between the parliaments of both nations. Nigeria, he said, is a strategic partner to China in Africa, adding that being the most populous country on the continent, it shares the same goals with his country on many global issues. Chinese businessmen, the chairman said, are interested in investing in areas of oil and gas, telecommunic-ations, transport and power generation. He expressed support for Nigeria’s desire to be a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, stressing that “China supports a reform of the UN security council to address the imbalance in the council as it affects developing nations.”   TO NEXT NEWS PAGE...
