Tinubu’s staff transfer directive pitches HOS, SSG
A counter directive allegedly endorsed by Governor Bola Tinubu to halt the transfer of 117 civil servants in the Lagos State Public Service may pitch the Head of Service Sunday Ajose and the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Omotilewa Aro-Lambo.
The workers mainly in the administrative cadres have been moved from their desks by the HOS through a circular dated October 19 as part of efforts to fine tune the public service for future challenges.
According to the circular copies of which were sent to top government officials, the affected officials were given up to October 27, 2004 to relocate to their new posts.
The HOS memo reads; “In consonance with the underlying core objectives of our new vision and mission for a public service that would meet the challenges of this century, I wish to inform you of the deployment of officers whose names appear on the attached lists.
“It must be noted that this deployment as part of the over all measures aimed at properly repositioning the entire public service machinery for greater efficiency and effectiveness in revenue generation and prompt service delivery.
“Consequently, all affected staff and agencies are strictly enjoined to comply with this circular latest by Wednesday 27th, October 2004. Failure to comply will attract stiff disciplinary action as enshrined in subsisting official regulations.”
But a counter order from the office of the SSG reversed the HOS directive just as the affected officials were settling down to business in their new offices a day after the October 27 deadline.
The SSG in an October 28 memo urged ministries, parastatals and agencies affected by the transfer to disregard the transfer of their workers.
According to the Aro-Lambo, the directive to maintain the status quo ante was given by the governor.
He said in the circular, “Further to the circular of Head of Service, Ref. No. LS/C109T3/796 dated 19th October 2004 on the above-mentioned subject, His Excellency; Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that the deployment exercise should be suspended forth-with.
“Consequently, all agencies and staff affected by the posting instructions are hereby directed to maintain status quo ante”.
