...In Abuja Water pipe vandalisation sends man to four-month jail By Abdulwahab Deji Ajikobi An Abuja senior magistrate sitting in Jabi has sentenced One Obina Uzor to four months impris-onment without option of fine for vandalising water pipes within Wuse area. According to the prosecution, the police detective team at Wuse metropolis arrested one Nair Bello, Hasiru Muhammad and Obina Uzor when they destroyed installed water pipes on purpose. The prosecution told the court that the accused are charged with mischief contrary to section 331 of the penal code law. The first and second accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge while the third accused pleaded guilty. The defence counsel prayed the court to grant 1st and 2nd accused bail in view of their plea. The presiding magist-rate, Hafsat Soso sentenced the 3rd accused to four months in prison without option of fine. She said that the condition was made following the scarcity of water in FCT. She also admitted the two others to bail with one surety each. The case was adjourned to December 1, 2004 for hear-ing. NEXT......
