Officers at the Pedro police Division recently won a running
battle with five robbers along the Maryland area of Lagos.
Daily Sun heard that the Anti-Robbery Team, led by an officer
later identified as Ossair, was roaming the dark highways
in search of men of the underworld when they saw some people
in distress. Sensing that all was not well, the police moved
in. The people turned out to be those that had recently been
robbed by commercial bus robbers. The people explained that
they were victims who boarded a commercial bus, unaware that
the people inside were robbers. They explained that they almost
jumped out of their skins in fright when the men brought out
guns and ordered them to submit their valuables.
Daily Sun investigations revealed that the hoodlums collected
the sum of N50,000 from one Kubura Afolabi along with handsets
and money from other victims, namely: Arogbabi Charles, Joseph
Ugbe and Elizabeth John Ameh.
It was further gathered that one of the victims told the team
that if a hot chase was given, the men might likely be caught.
The heroic man, also said he would be able to recognise the
bus marked XH598AGL. The police went with the man. They sighted
the bus and ordered it to stop but it would not. The persuers
shot at the tyres. The robbers were said to have made it to
the Maryland area before fading into the night, leaving their
member Yaya Isiaka with a bullet wound from the police.
Daily Sun heard that Isiaka claimed that four members of his
gang abandoned him and their vehicle and ran into the cantonment,
close to Maryland. Recovered from the robbers were four live
cartridges and N500 cash. Detectives were said to be on the
trail of the other robbers.
Similarly, Daily Sun learnt that the team earlier got a tip
off that men of the underworld were about to rob a bank in
the Ladipo market area of Mushin. The team raced to the scene
and saved the day. The robbers were said to have bolted when
they sighted the officers.
At the Pedro police station, Mr. Ossair refused to comment
on the events, advising Daily Sun to meet the Divisional Police
Officer(DPO). The DPO also declined comment, directing Daily
Sun to the Police Public Relations Officer.
