"The South South zone especially the Niger Delta is entitled to the presidency just like any other part of the country and at the appropriate time, we will lay claim to it," Ake told Daily Sun in a chat in Port Harcourt. The PDP chieftain debunked claims that the party has zoned the office to the North, saying that "PDP has not zoned the presidency to any part of the country. The presidency is free for all." Ake said that the zone was only waiting for the national executive of the party to give the green light, adding that the South-South would definitely get the blessings when it makes its request known. He said that if fairness and national justice were the guiding principles for the choice of the presidency in 2007, the South-South zone would not have any challenge in producing the presidency as it remained the only zone that has not held the office despite its contributions to the national coffers. "We won’t allow the opportunity in 2007 to elude us. We are working unitedly to ensure that there would be no opposing voice among us when the time comes for us to lay claim to the plum job," Ake said. He said that the crisis that trailed his choice as the national vice chairman of the party in the zone has been resolved and that the zonal leaders would from next week begin a tour of the six states that make up the zone.
