Marwa to lecture church heads on leadership
From Charles Ogugbuaja, Owerri
FORMER Military Administrator of Lagos and Borno states, Brig.- Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd) and the Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara, are expected to deliver lectures and speeches at the 2004 Ogbu Diocese of the Anglican Church Synod on November 8.
The Bishop of the diocese, Prof. Emmanuel Iheagwam, said Marwa, who is expected to speak on leadership, was selected because of the successes he recorded during his time as the administrator of Lagos State.
"In keeping with our practice of inviting eminent personalities to lecture us on topical issues, we have invited His Excellency, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd) specifically on Monday, November 8, 2004, to speak on leadership which everybody believes to be the major problem of Nigeria. We expect him to share with us the secret of his success as a one-time military administrator of Lagos and Bornu states", Iheagwam said.
Also to deliver goodwill messages at the ceremony are Wabara and Governor Achike Udenwa of Imo State.
Issues to be discussed at the synod also include the restiveness of youths in tertiary institutions leading to death and maiming of students.
The cleric also revealed that the church has commenced the building of N60 million 300-capacity hostel at the Eziobodo for the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), adding that 14 per cent of funds have been committed to it.
This, he said, was part of the church's contribution to the growth of education. He regretted that students are subjected to armed robbery cultism, rape and kidnapping.
The cleric urged the press to give the synod the coverage it requires.
At the press conference with the bishop was Comfort Obi, the publisher of The Source magazine.
