NUJ decries sack of members
THE Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) has condemned the recent dismissal of the Enugu State Chairman of the NUJ, Ngozika Delibe and the Secretary, Callistus Ebue, from the state civil service over alleged anti-government activities.
The NUJ chairman and the secretary were said to have been battling with some government officials over who should control the NUJ in the state, a situation, which led to the government seizure of the press centre from the union for almost one week.
According to a statement by the NUJ, the state Commissioner for Information had queried the two NUJ officials and subsequently, suspended them from service.
They were again queried and finally dismissed "as if they are petty criminals" the statement said, adding that the government was not aware of it.
"We appeal to Governor Chimaroke Nnamani to quickly call these government officials to order before they smear the credibility of the state government," NUJ concluded.
