President General of the Nigerian
Supporters Club, Dr Raul Ladipo, has predicted a good outing for the
nation’s representative in the ongoing CAF Championship League, Enyimba.
Ladipo, in an interview, said he based his
optimism on Enyimba’s away record, which he said is enough to disturb any
team, including their opponent Esperance of Tunisia in Saturday’s tie. He
noted that on a good day, the People’s Elephant can be very difficult to
beat.
“Enyimba is no team you can push
aside, whether they are playing away from home or even playing on their home
soil. It is true they have fumbled on few occasions in their home matches but
that does not take anything away from them,” Ladipo said.
According to him, Enyimba have been able to
turn the table against their opponents before even at a time when they are
least expected, adding that they can do it again.
While also commenting on Rangers’
performance on the continent, Ladipo commended the team, saying they have done
well this season. He insisted, however, that they will need to put more effort
in the last away match this weekend in Angola.
He advised that the Antelopes should forget
their last victory and should work towards winning their match against Petro
Athletico of Angola this weekend.
Commenting on FIFA’s decision to
hammer the nation if the obnoxious Decree 101 is still in place by December 31,
Ladipo stated that Nigeria would escape FIFA’s hammer, saying, however,
that the football authority should do all it can to ensure that the vexatious
decree is repealed before the deadline.
“I know FIFA will not ban us,”
Ladipo said, “what they are saying is that government should hands off
its control of football, but handing off does not mean that government should
also hands off its support for the game.”
